FAQ
Straight answers before you commit
Everything homeowners ask about estimates, pricing, deadlines, and our refund guarantee — in one place.
Getting started
- 01What does “only pay if we win” mean?
- You choose whether to move forward after seeing your savings. If we don't reduce your property tax assessment, we refund your full membership fee — no questions asked.
- 02When do I see pricing?
- Only after your address is verified and your savings estimate is finalized. You see your savings estimate first — free. Only then do we show a single flat annual fee based on your savings potential. One flat fee, never a percentage of your savings.
- 03How does address verification work?
- We validate your property against US postal records — confirming street number, ZIP code, city, state, and county — before running any savings analysis. If we can't verify your address, we won't show an estimate.
- 04Which states do you serve?
- California, Florida, Georgia, Utah, and Washington. Our address checker confirms eligibility automatically during verification. We're expanding to additional states — join the waitlist via contact if yours isn't listed yet.
Pricing & guarantee
- 05What if you don't save me money?
- If we don't reduce your property tax assessment, we'll refund your full membership fee — no questions asked.
- 06How is this different from contingency firms?
- Contingency firms typically take 25–30% of your savings every year, often with multi-year contracts. FairAssess charges a flat one flat annual fee membership only after you see your estimate — and refunds you in full if we don't reduce your assessment.
- 07Are there hidden fees or percentage cuts?
- No. Your membership covers the full appeal for that tax year. We never take a percentage of your savings, and we don't charge per hearing or per document.
The appeal process
- 08Do I have to attend a hearing?
- In most cases, no. We handle informal negotiations with the appraisal district and represent you at formal hearings when required. We'll notify you if your presence is ever needed — it's rare.
- 09When is the appeal deadline in my county?
- Deadlines vary by state and county — often 30–45 days after your assessment notice arrives. Once you're a member, we track your county calendar and file before the cutoff. You can see general windows on our Coverage page.
- 10What evidence do you use?
- We build a case from recent comparable sales, assessment history, property characteristics, and county valuation methodology. Every appeal is tailored to your property — not a template letter.
Account & billing
- 11Can I cancel my membership?
- Your annual membership covers one appeal cycle for the tax year you enrolled. You can turn off auto-renewal anytime from your account or by emailing support. If we've already filed your appeal, the guarantee still applies to that year's outcome.
- 12How long until I know if we won?
- Most counties resolve informal appeals within 4–8 weeks. Formal hearings can extend into summer. We email you at each milestone and post updates in your dashboard.
